Edison, Westinghouse, and Tesla: War of the Currents
Join Professor Adrian Kerr to explore the spark igniting “The War of the Currents,” a series of events surrounding the introduction of competing electric-power transmission systems in the United States in the late 1880s and early 1890s. The “War of the Currents” matched direct current (DC) champion Thomas Edison against the alternating current (AC) champions George Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla. Commercial competition, the debate over electrical safety, and a media campaign grew out of this debate. The program will end with a discussion of the early electric cars and recent advances in these products for the mass market. Tickets for this class cost $10 each* and can be purchased at (239) 489-8472.
