American Civil War: The Battle of Franklin, TN - Lecture at Sanibel Library
American Civil War 150th Anniversary Lecture:
Sanibel Public Library media specialist Duane E. Shaffer discusses the strategy and tactics of The Battle of Franklin, fought at Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864.
Part of the Franklin-Nashville Campaign, it was one of the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood's Army of Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied by Union forces.
An additional American Civil War Lecture will be held at the Library on Friday, March 20, with a discussion of "The Battle of Bentonville," fought in March of 1865.
