Speaker Series: Gopher Tortoise Restoration Project
Guest Speaker: Dr. Nora Demers, Asst. Professor of Biology & Interdisciplinary Studies at FGCU
Gopher tortoises are reptiles that occupy upland habitat throughout Southeastern United States. They are named for their ability to dig holes that in turn provide a huge commodity for other species of wildlife. Dr. Demers will describe its life history, status, and role as a keystone species. Then she will discuss the importance of habitat restoration, and the challenges of accomplishing effective land stewardship in (ever-increasing) urban environments.
