The History of Iraq to Present Times, Two Sessions
Mesopotamia was one of the world’s greatest ancient civilizations, and produced many early city states that have since become household names. This region, now modern-day Iraq, has been fought over for more than 4,000 years. During this period, great empires, such as Assyria and Babylonia, grew to dominance then collapsed, overtaken by other great empires – Iran, the Greeks, Rome, then the Ottomans. Investigate the most famous milestones in Iraq’s long history with Professor Adrian Kerr; end with session two by reviewing the current turmoil that continues to engulf this country.
