Stovall\, M.D.\, FAAP\, FIDSA Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer\n\nLeadership responsibilities: Patient safety error prevention and assessment\, quality improvement and standardization\, national hospital grading and benchmarking\, conformance risk assessments Dr. Stovall joined Lee Health in 2011 as an attending physician for pediatric infectious diseases at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. She assumed her chief position in January of 2021 and is responsible for quality and safety throughout Lee Health. She leads the health system's response to COVID-19 as its scientific liaison and infection prevention expert. Her previous roles at Golisano Children's Hospital include: division director of pediatric infectious diseases\, medical director of epidemiology and infection prevention\, and medical director of quality and patient safety. She also served as president of the medical staff and medical executive committee and as medical director of the antimicrobial stewardship program. Dr. Stovall believes the foundational principle of quality in healthcare rests first on safety and true improvement of quality is achieved through continuous evaluation\, adjustment\, and adaptation. In her words\, quality is not a state to achieve\, but a continuous target for which to aim. She is frequently invited to speak at symposiums and conferences\, presenting on topics ranging from pediatric HIV to the effects of influenza on healthcare workers. Additionally\, she often appears in the media on subjects such as vaccines\, antibiotics\, and COVID-19. Before joining Lee Health\, Dr. Stovall was an attending physician for pediatric infectious diseases at Arkansas Children's Hospital where she also served as the medical director of the Clinical Microbiology and Virology Laboratory and co-director of the antimicrobial stewardship team. She earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and attained a Master's Degree in Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. She completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
