Ancient Egypt is recognized as a great world civilization and empire that lasted more than 2,000 years. One iconic achievement of Ancient Egypt are its 90+ pyramids, constructed as the final resting place for the pharaohs. Professor Adrian Kerr will review how early royal tombs developed from simple mud brick, single story mastabas to the stone-stepped pyramids, then to the classical-shaped smooth pyramids. Plus, not all pyramid building was successful; Kerr will examine some of the notorious failures as the Egyptians reached ever skyward on their quest for a “stairway to heaven.”
