Book Talk: Betty Anholt's "Turtle Coast" at Sanibel Library

Book Talk: Betty Anholt's "Turtle Coast" at Sanibel Library

Sanibel Public Library's Betty Anholt discusses her new book, "Turtle Coast."
Book sale and signing to follow.

Betty Anholt is a long-term student of Florida’s natural and social history—and in particular that of southwest Florida and the islands. She has published six books, including "Sanibel’s Story: Voices and Images from Calusa to Incorporation," and the co-written "Protecting Sanibel and Captiva Islands: The Conservation Story" with Charles LeBuff in 2018.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Betty moved to Sanibel with her husband, Jim, and their young family many years ago. She has canoe-camped along several of Florida’s rivers and streams, and crossed the Everglades by paddle. Anholt works in reference and cataloging at the Sanibel Public Library.
"Turtle Coast" is historical fiction, published in 2019. The story imagines life in coastal Southwest Florida in the 1920s. Though their homesteads were isolated from each other, commercial fisherman and their families knit a network of support to help each other endure hard times. The book intertwines the beauty of the local flora and fauna with the struggles of people who lived along the coast a hundred years ago.

The public is invited to this Library Program. There is no registration required and no additional cost to participate.
