Damaris Peters Pike as Nannerl Mozart at Sanibel Public Library
Damaris Peters Pike’s Women of Note Series “The Forgotten Prodigy – Nannerl Mozart”
Wolfgang Amodeus Mozart’s talented older sister, Nannerl, because of her gender, was not given a chance for the fame he enjoyed. As children, the siblings sometimes played harpsichord duets for the nobility. When she was "of marrying age," her father told Nannerl she could no longer tour and perform with her brother. An obedient daughter, she then stayed home, eventually marrying. She became a music teacher for children. Wolfgang, an acknowledged musical genius, continued his chaotic, but productive short life as a composer and performer.
Damaris Peters Pike's “Women of Note- Nannerl Mozart” is open to the public. There is no registration required and no additional cost to participate.
Damaris Peters Pike is Professor of Music Emerita at Hiram College, where she founded the Opera Workshop and directed the Hiram College Madrigals and College Choir. In 1988, she founded The Women of Note programs to take her knowledge of music history to the public with the belief that the best way to understand a period in history is to study important characters and their times.
