Garden Talk on Butterfly Gardening
Here in Southwest Florida, residents and visitors can watch butterflies all year long. While warm weather is the main reason why butterflies are always here, it’s not the only one. Gardeners with dedicated butterfly gardens have played a large role in increasing butterfly populations.
Butterflies require plants for nectar and “host plants” or plants that are food for the caterpillars. Visitors will learn which plants are needed to attract butterflies to their garden. There will be a short PowerPoint presentation, then a walk through the demonstration garden so everyone can see firsthand how to create their own butterfly garden.
Everyone should wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes and bring a hat and drinking water. Participants will receive a 20% off coupon for use toward butterfly plant purchases. Cost: Edison Ford members: $10; future members: $15
