The Origins of Cattle in the Tropic Americas: at Sanibel Library
Cracker and Criollo: The Origins of Cattle in the Tropical Americas:
Many believe the majority of wild cattle in the Americas are a result of the Spanish introduction and the changes brought on by the environment.
In reality, the movements of colonizers, natives, and livestock are far more complex with numerous species introduced some purposely, others with a more haphazard mixing. The result is the wide tapestry of cattle breeds we see today even amongst the supposed direct descendants of the Spanish cattle.
Join Agricultural Historian, Jeff Dickey, as he provides an in-depth discussion on southwest Florida’s primary industry during the late 1800s.
The public is invited to this Library program. There is no registration required and no cost to participate.
