Social Services Assistant

Job Description
Department: Social Services Department
Employment Status: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Mon-Fri on Sanibel Island
Position Purpose:
The Social Services Assistant will help with coordination and administration of all Social Services
Department programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs a variety of community social services, directly or indirectly; assist with assessments of
needs and provides referrals, coordination of Social Service programs, workshops and services,
community involvement and education, and links clients to interagency programs and services.
1. Works under the direction and guidance of the Program Director and Case Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conducts Food Pantry intakes
2. Assess client’s needs for possible other services
3. Provides referrals to outside agencies, if they do not meet agency eligibility
4. If eligible for agency services, will provide Case Manager with client’s basic contact information for
scheduling an intake
5. Assist Case Manager with client files, documentation, scanning to server and organizing new and
old files
6. Keep spreadsheets with client information
7. Follow up with clients (survey/feedback)
8. Assist with the preparation of workshops/seminars
9. Follow up phone calls for workshop attendance when necessary.
10. Phone calls to Friendly Faces Luncheon, in the absence of the volunteers
11. Follow up with outcome measurements for programs and workshops
12. Prepare information packages for ESOL and Tutoring instructors
13. Miscellaneous duties as assigned by Program Director
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High School Graduate
2. Has or is seeking a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
3. Ability to work in an ethical and professional manner
4. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
5. MUST BE Bi-Lingual or Multi-Lingual
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills
7. Good organizational skills
8. Knowledge of local Social Services Agencies a PLUS
