Blessing of the Animals

St. Michael’s to Hold Annual Blessing of the Animals on October 7
SANIBEL, Fla. — St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church will hold its annual
Blessing of the Animals on Wednesday, October 7, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
outside the church at 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
The event will begin with a brief 15 minute outdoor service celebrating the joy,
companionship and unconditional love that animals bring to our lives. Following
the service, clergy will offer individual blessings beneath the red tent in front of
the church.
Pets and their people may drive, walk or bike up to the tent to receive a blessing. For
everyone’s comfort and safety, pets should be secured on a leash or in a carrier.
Those whose pets cannot attend are invited to bring a photograph for blessing.
Children and adults are also welcome to bring a beloved stuffed animal to be
blessed.
The Blessing of the Animals is a cherished tradition inspired by St. Francis of Assisi,
who is remembered for his love of animals and all creation. The event is open to
the entire community, and all animals—and their people—are welcome.
